National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez beat Ekaterina Makarova in the qualifiers of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) 500 tournament Brisbane International and advanced to the final round.

According to the statement made by the Turkish Tennis Federation, the 22-year-old national tennis player competed in the qualifiers in Brisbane, Australia.

Facing Ekaterina Makarova in the first match of the season, Zeynep made it to the final by winning 2-0 with sets of 6-1 and 6-0 in the 52-minute match against her Russian opponent.

The national athlete will face another Russian tennis player Polina Kudermetova in the final round on Sunday, December 29.
