National team: DFB wants to poach the next England youngster

After Lukas Nmecha (23), the German Football Association also wants to poach his brother Felix (21) from England. Both play together at Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg.

“We would be happy if Felix can play for Germany in the future and will do everything we can,” confirmed DFB youngster Joti Chatzialexiou (45) of “Bild”.

Before Christmas, U21 national coach Antonio Di Salvo contacted Wolfsburg’s midfielder and tried to convince him to change Germany, the paper reported.

Accordingly, a change of association has already been requested. Now only the formalities have to be settled.

The DFB officials would hope that Felix Nmecha can play for the first time for the U21 team in the next European Championship qualifier against Latvia at the end of March.

Lukas Nmecha is now a national team player

Born in Hamburg, whose family emigrated to England in 2007, has already appeared three times for the German U18 team.

Then the ex-professional from Manchester City decided for England, where he played seven games for the U18 and U19.

In 2019, the former U21 coach Stefan Kuntz had drawn England’s junior international Lukas Nmecha to the DFB.

The striker became European champions with the U21s last summer. In mid-November, national coach Hansi Flick made him a senior international.
