Defender Nico Schlottbeck is moving from Freiburg to Dortmund in the summer. Now the SC has to fill a gap in the defense. According to reports, Matthias Ginter is about to return.

The next transfer cracker could be imminent in the Bundesliga. Because Nico Schlotterbeck will play for Borussia Dortmund next season, Matthias Ginter should take his place in the Freiburg defense chain. This is reported by “Bild” and “Sport Bild”.

The national player is currently still under contract with Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 28-year-old announced not to renew his working paper after five years. Most recently, he was associated with league rivals FC Bayern, Inter Milan and Aston Villa.

Disappointing year in Gladbach

Should there be a free transfer to Freiburg, it would be a return for Ginter. Born in Breisgau, he went through the SC youth team from 2005 to 2012 – and won the DFB Cup twice in the U19s together with coach Christian Streich before moving to Dortmund in 2014.

With the SC he would play internationally again after a recent disappointing year in Gladbach. Streich’s team will at least take part in the Europa League next season. The Champions League is still possible.
