National player Matthias Ginter announces imminent decision in terms of the future

National player about speculation

In the run-up to the Rhine derby between Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1. FC Köln (from 6:30 p.m. in the TM live ticker), Matthias Ginter commented on the speculation about his future. The 28-year-old’s contract with the “foals” expires at the end of the season, and the central defender was recently associated with Premier League club Aston Villa, among other things.

Ginter’s departure from the Lower Rhine after five years at Borussia has been a done deal since the end of December last year. Since then, the national player has kept a low profile when it comes to future planning, in an interview with the portal “sports1He now spoke about the rumors about a move to England, his home and training club SC Freiburg and looks back on the difficult time at the beginning of January, when, surprisingly for many, he was no longer part of the starting XI of the Bundesliga club.

In the game against Bayer Leverkusen on January 15 (1: 2), coach Adi Hütter put the 1.91 meter tall defender on the bench – it was the first time that Ginter, provided he was not injured, was not in a Bundesliga game in Mönchengladbach in the starting formation. “I understand if you don’t field me for sporting reasons. But we had just won 2-1 at Bayern when we had an open discussion with the coach and Max Eberl. It was mid-January, so the transfer window was still two weeks away. I think everyone suspected that it wasn’t just about sport,” summarizes Ginter, who was already associated with clubs like Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund at this point.

Ginter on Gladbach farewell: “Details would go beyond the scope”

At least since then, the relationship between the player and the club has been considered broken, although Ginter has always emphasized in recent weeks that this is not the case on his part. Despite the quarrels about his departure in the summer, he left the club without resentment: “Of course there are always valleys that you have to go through in the course of a career, and I would add the last time to that. But I will give everything for the club until the end and beyond and only speak positively about him because I see the big picture and really had a wonderful time here.

The club’s offer to extend the contract was not the reason for his departure. “No, that wasn’t true. If I were to shed light on all the details of the last year and a half, that would go beyond the scope of this interview, ”explained Ginter. “But the offer I got at the end of last year had nothing to do with my decision. I had met them long before that for various reasons.”

National player Ginter’s future will be decided shortly

After four years of sporting success, the last few weeks and months in particular have not been “easy,” “both for the team and for me personally.” It’s difficult to come up with a timeline, but I don’t think it will be too long before there’s anything to announce. But whether it will ultimately be in one, two or three weeks – I have no idea. (…) If something is fixed, it will also be reported. Until then, however, you will have to be patient.”

In addition to the fact that the family environment has to fit, the criteria for his decision are the potential and the ambitions of the club, the sporting role planned for him and the personality of the coach: “There are a few sporting things, a few apart from it and ultimately one weighs up. There will never be 100% security beforehand anyway, but you try to decide as well as possible.”

Most recently, Ginter was associated with Aston Villa, a possible transfer to the island is also hotly debated in the TM rumor mill – however, the probability is assessed differently: “I don’t see Ginter, who is averse to a duel and acting quite disembodied, in the BPL and certainly not not with a team that is unlikely to have much possession of the ball or game control,” wrote, for example, user “proximus85”.

I don’t see Ginter, who is averse to one-on-one and quite disembodied, in the BPL and certainly not in a team with probably little possession of the ball or game control. Neither stature nor headers nor speed are really made for English football. I’m happy to be surprised, but Ginter would do himself a favor with Italy purely in terms of layout. …

When asked about the speculation, Ginter said on “Sport1”: “I would like to hold back on specific clubs or domestic and foreign issues for the time being. But of course you talk to different people and you have a few things that are important to you. Then you will see everything else.”

The right footer also cautiously commented on the rumors of a possible return to home and training club SC Freiburg: “Freiburg is our home and these thoughts are always in the back of our minds. But there is also the question of the extent to which this can really be implemented. In principle, we agree that the further life planning after the career definitely includes Freiburg as the center of life. Whether it will be possible to move there before that for sporting reasons remains to be seen.”
