National player Marc-André ter Stegen from FC Barcelona before his comeback

Marc-André ter Stegen underwent surgery in December. Now he is about to return to the FC Barcelona goal.

The German national goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is about to make his comeback in goal for FC Barcelona after a three-month injury break. The former Gladbacher had received the green light from the medical department, the Catalans announced on Platform X before the league game against FC Granada.

Ter Stegen had to undergo back surgery in December due to persistent pain. The 31-year-old made his last appearance in a Barça jersey on November 12th in the league game against CD Alaves (2-1). After that, he was also out for the two international matches in November against Turkey (2:3) and in Austria (0:2). Ter Stegen, who was voted the best player in the Primera División last season, was represented at the club by Iñaki Peña.

He could now be called up again for the upcoming international matches in March in France and against the Netherlands – although long-time number one Manuel Neuer is also likely to return to the DFB squad for the first time in over a year. National coach Julian Nagelsmann is therefore faced with the decision as to which goalkeeper will be preferred with a view to the home European Championships in the summer.
