Another inglorious incident overshadows the first round in the DFB Cup. This time the hatred of some internet users hit a German international.

With a technically strong free kick, Nadiem Amiri has secured the FSV Mainz 05 into the second round of the DFB Cup. In the 1-0 victory in Dresden, he circulated the ball perfectly after 25 minutes over the wall into the dynamo gate, scoring the decisive goal of the day. But instead of only receiving praise for his performance, the German international was then the target of bad agitation on the Internet.

Amiri made the hostility public. In his Instagram story, the 28-year-old showed a direct message in which a user massively insulted him and his mother, also with xenophobic content. The Mainz narrowly commented on the screenshot: “No more words for such people.”

The incidents around Amiri are the next worrying anecdote of an already inglorious cup weekend. Racist insults had become public several times in the past few days. In Leipzig, Schalke’s Christopher Antwi-Adjei had been insulted by a fan, in Potsdam a substitute for the 1. FC Kaiserslautern. FIFA President Gianni Infantino reacted to the incidents and in the future observed the German Football Association (DFB).

Even after the BVB game in Essen, there was xenophobic statements against a professional. RWE player Kelsey Owusu was racistically insulted on the net after his foul on BVB professional Yan Couto. The club therefore even parked its comment function on Instagram.
