HAVANA (dpa-AFX) – In memory of the 32 Cubans killed in the US attack on Venezuela, the government in Havana has ordered two days of national mourning. On Monday and Tuesday, flags will be flown at half-mast in front of public buildings and military bases, according to a decree signed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel. Public celebrations are prohibited during this time.

Members of the Cuban security forces were killed in the US operation to arrest Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Saturday night. According to Cuba’s ruling Communist Party, they were sent to the South American country at the request of the Venezuelan authorities.

According to experts, security forces from allied Cuba have been deployed in Venezuela for years. As bodyguards, they were responsible for Maduro’s personal safety or ensure discipline in the ranks of the armed forces./dde/DP/zb
