From 15 May, all information from the national government about nuclear energy in the Netherlands can be found at www.overkernenergie.nl. It concerns both a general explanation of nuclear energy and information about the current state of affairs regarding the proposed extension of the operating life of the existing nuclear power plant and the preparations for the arrival of 2 new nuclear power plants. The website will be gradually expanded in the coming period.
The website explains, among other things, how nuclear energy works. For example, how nuclear reactors are cooled and what the advantages and disadvantages of nuclear energy are. The role of nuclear energy and nuclear facilities in the Netherlands, such as the research reactors in Delft and Petten, are also explained. Various short explanatory videos will also be developed for this in the coming period.
In addition, the progress of the various processes in the field of nuclear energy in the Netherlands can be followed via the website. It concerns the intended operating time extension of the existing nuclear power plant in Borssele, if this is possible safely; the preparations for the arrival of two new nuclear power plants in the Netherlands; updating the National Program for Radioactive Waste and strengthening the knowledge infrastructure. In addition, recent research reports and information from, for example, the ANVS regulator and the municipality of Borsele are bundled.
The website is intended both for residents of the preferred location in the municipality of Borsele and for other interested parties who want more information about nuclear energy or who want to stay informed of the latest state of affairs. The website will be gradually supplemented with more information, new announcements, explainer videos, updates on progress and investigations.
