National day of action: major nuisance at STIB | Brussels

BrusselsThe STIB network has been severely disrupted since 6 am this morning due to the national day of action on purchasing power taking place in Brussels.

The various trade union organizations in the country are calling for mobilization in Brussels today. This action has consequences for STIB bus, tram and metro traffic. Public transport has been experiencing major disruption since this morning, and STIB expects the network to be heavily disrupted throughout the day. “We have chosen to run the largest lines”, says An Vanhamme, spokeswoman for the STIB.

Metro line 1 extended

The STIB reports that one in four metro lines runs. Metro 1 is running, but will be extended between Weststation and Erasmus. There is a shuttle car park that travelers can use. The other metro lines are not running.

Of the 17 tram lines, 7 are leaving today. Trams 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 51 and 92 are operational, tram 7 is being diverted to Esplanade. About a quarter of the buses run. Travelers can use the following bus lines: 12, 29, 34, 36, 46, 53, 54, 56, 59, 65, 71, 73, 87 (extended to Zwarte Vijvers), 88 and 95.

“This situation will remain unchanged until the evening rush hour. We will be able to do a new update around 4 pm, we expect that the same lines will also run during the evening rush hour, but that will depend on the number of people willing to work,” said Vanhamme.

Travelers can follow the latest information all day long via social media.
