National coach Wiegman helps English football players to their first European Championship title

National coach Sarina Wiegman has given the English football players the first top prize ever. The 52-year-old Dutch saw her team on Sunday at a packed Wembley win against Germany in the final of the European championship: 2-1. After regular time it was 1-1, after which substitute Chloe Kelly made the difference in the second half of extra time with the winning goal.

It is the second time in a row for Wiegman that she has won the European Championship. Five years ago she helped the Netherlands to the European title. Just like England now, the Netherlands played that tournament in their own country. After last year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, where the Orange squad stranded in the quarterfinals against the United States, Wiegman switched to England. The Hague is still undefeated as England national coach.

Germany has already won the European Football Championship for women eight times and is by far the most successful country.
