National coach Van Gaal: “A ridiculous World Cup”

In the run-up to the exhibition games against Denmark and Germany, Louis van Gaal gave a press conference. The national coach made it clear what he thinks of the upcoming World Cup in Qatar. “A ridiculous World Cup, but it’s about money and commercial interests,” Van Gaal is clear.

“It is not correct. I can say that in Qatar later, but that does not help the world get rid of this problem,” continues the national coach.

28 players

Louis van Gaal called up no fewer than 28 players. He did this because he wanted to try out a new system. “Then almost everyone will experience that implementation. I then see which players can function in it and which cannot.”

Ajax player Ryan Gravenberch is not in the selection. The midfielder will play for the Dutch Juniors this week. “He has had a bad period. The Juniors play against Young Switzerland and they are at the top. I am not only here for the Dutch national team, but for Dutch football,” Louis van Gaal said.

AZ midfielder Jordy Clasie is in the selection. “He’s in good form and he has knowledge of the system.”

Ronald Koeman

The KNVB is in talks with Ronald Koeman to succeed Louis van Gaal. “Very sensible. I told them that too. He is the only coach with experience. He would be a good successor.”
