Julian Nagelsmann was a guest on the show “People, Images, Emotions” on Wednesday evening. On live TV he talked about the home European Championships and his girlfriend.
The home European Championship was almost half a year ago. However, the RTL program “People, Images, Emotions”, moderated by Steffen Hallaschka, was again about the football tournament in Germany on Wednesday evening. National coach Julian Nagelsmann was also a guest for the annual review.
The DFB coach particularly emphasized the interplay between sporting success and personal support. For Germany, the tournament ended in the quarter-finals against eventual European champions Spain (1:2). During the European Championships, the national coach always had support from his loved ones, including his girlfriend Lena Wurzenberger. The 37-year-old also spoke about her on the show.
When Nagelsmann was asked about the kissing photo that a photographer had taken of him and his girlfriend after one of the European Championship games, he said to Hallaschka: “Lena was at every game in the stadium and supported me, that was and is a very important one Factor. I think it’s also appropriate to say thank you and just pick up this winner’s kiss.” Wurzenberger was also present in the TV studio. She reacted visibly touched to Nagelsmann’s words. There were visibly tears in her eyes at his words of thanks.
In addition to Wurzenberger, Nagelsmann also highlighted other people close to him: “I would like to thank my family for always being there for me and supporting me.”
Nagelsmann also understands why the photo of him and his loved one went so viral: “You know, yes, that somehow it will be photographed when you go to see your family. Of course you like to have such big moments for yourself, but you are Just not for yourself in a stadium like that.”
In addition to the personal moments, Nagelsmann also looked back on the elimination against Spain. He said: “I was relatively calm during the action because I simply tried to stay in the here and now. You don’t have things in your own hands.” In the meantime, Nagelsmann has clearly looked ahead: “I also thought: You’re not finished here yet, we still need a little time for the really big moments. Maybe we’ll save them until the 2026 World Cup.”
