Full of emotions, national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg recalled Uwe Seeler after the German soccer team reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in England.

“We talked a lot about Uwe because he also wrote to us. We knew he wanted to watch the games,” said the 54-year-old after the 2-0 (1-0) win against Austria on Thursday evening.

Your team found out immediately after the meeting at the team hotel before the game in Brentford that the football legend souler had died. “It wasn’t easy to get that focus back on the game,” he said Voss-Tecklenburg.

The DFB women then played with black ribbons in honor of the honorary captain of the German national team, who died on Thursday at the age of 85. There was also a minute’s silence before kick-off.

“Whenever you were allowed to meet him, he said something nice, gave something good and he always followed us,” said the national coach. “Maybe we were still able to make him happy today.”
