Around four years have passed since electric car maker Tesla first announced the Cybertruck in 2019. Now the first units of the futuristic pick-up truck are actually scheduled to be handed over on November 30th. However, those who pre-order should not have too high hopes of receiving their vehicle soon.
• Delivery event for Tesla’s Cybertruck on November 30th in Texas Gigafactory
• Only ten Cybertrucks will probably be handed over
• Much data on the e-pickup remains unknown
The first units of the Cybertruck should actually be delivered in September 2023. However, after this date had to be postponed, the time has finally come: “Join us on Thursday, November 30th at Gigafactory Texas to celebrate the first deliveries of the Cybertruck,” it says on the electric car manufacturer’s website Tesla. Unlike previous Tesla events, the delivery event for the Cybertruck does not begin in the evening, but at 1 p.m. Central Time, which corresponds to 8 p.m. German time. Martin Viecha, Tesla’s Head of Investor Relations, pointed this out via X, formerly Twitter.
The Cybertruck delivery event starts at around 1pm CT on Thursday, in case someone’s unsure. I’ve noticed that few people thought it’s an evening event.

Interested Tesla fans had the opportunity to get a ticket for the event with a bit of luck – either as a reward as part of Tesla’s referral program or if they registered as a Tesla shareholder for a random drawing. As in the past, there may also be a live stream of the event on YouTube or on the Tesla website, although this has not yet been specifically announced. However, Tesla fans and customers, especially those who have already pre-ordered the Cybertruck, should probably not expect too much from the event, as it is likely to have a more symbolic character.
Cybertruck: Only very small quantities before handover
As “Investors Business Daily” reports, citing industry estimates, there are now around two million reservations for Tesla’s Cybertruck. However, this high number of pre-orders is in stark contrast to the number of Cybertrucks that are scheduled to be handed over on Thursday. “We will deliver the first ten,” said Tesla’s product design director Javier Verdura, according to “Milenio,” referring to the upcoming event at a conference in Monterrey. It can also be assumed that these first vehicles will go exclusively to Tesla employees, as no information about the price of the Cybertruck versions has yet been announced.
The fact that Tesla only delivers new electric cars in very small numbers at a major delivery event is nothing new. For example, the Model 3 was initially only handed over to 30 customers. However, the number of just ten Cybertrucks is very low even by Tesla standards. This may be due to the difficult production that the Tesla boss pointed out Elon Musk had repeatedly pointed out in the past. “We dug our own grave with the Cybertruck,” Musk said during a recent conference call with analysts – and pointed out that there are still “enormous challenges” with the Cybertruck before actual series production can be achieved. He therefore expects that the vehicle will only make a “significant positive cash flow contribution” in twelve to 18 months, Musk continued.
A lot of information about the Cybertruck is still unknown
Tesla’s goal is to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks per year, Elon Musk also said in the last balance sheet presentation, according to “Investor’s Business Daily”. The Tesla boss continues that he assumes that this goal can be achieved in 2025. Perhaps the path to this goal could now be outlined in more detail as part of the delivery event. According to “BGR” in October, well-known tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF International Securities estimated that Tesla would deliver a total of 100 to 200 Cybertrucks in 2023. In 2024 there should be 100,000 to 200,000 vehicles and in 2025 between 240,000 and 260,000.
There is also speculation in various media as to whether Tesla, in addition to possible information about the future production volume of the Cybertruck, will also announce more detailed details about its specifications and price on Thursday. Because the numerous people who pre-ordered still don’t know how much the electric pick-up will cost them. According to Fox Business, research firm Kelley Blue Book expects the Cybertruck to cost around $50,000. Gary Black, co-founder of the Future Fund Active ETF, said the Cybertruck version with an engine would cost $49,990, according to Barron’s. He estimated the two-motor version at $59,990 and the three-motor version at $79,990.
Although, according to “Teslarati”, exhibition units of the Cybertruck are now being presented in selected Tesla branches, the electric car manufacturer has so far remained tight-lipped about prices and specifications. According to speculation from “auto motor und sport”, the towing capacity of the Cybertruck is likely to be between 3.4 tons and 6.3 tons and the range between 402 and 805 kilometers, depending on the version.
Positive effects of the Cybertruck event on Tesla shares possible
But even if only ten Cybertrucks are handed over on November 30th, that could have a positive impact on Tesla and Tesla shares. According to Barron’s, there is a possibility that a so-called halo effect could occur. This term from social psychology describes the tendency for an impression created in one area to influence opinion in another area. “Barron’s” refers the term to the Tesla brand and believes it is possible that a “new, cool model, […] “could boost sales of other, older models”. According to the news site, this was the case in the past with the launch of the Model Y, which boosted the sales figures for the Model 3 instead of cannibalizing them, as had been expected in advance. Should Although the Cybertruck will also have a similar impact on the sales figures of other Tesla models, this will probably only become noticeable in 2024, according to “Barron’s”.
But Tesla shares could also possibly gain new momentum from the Cybertruck Delivery Event. Because it’s currently bobbing along a bit listlessly. In the last three months, the stock has gained at least 3.1 percent in value, and since the beginning of the year, Tesla shares have even increased by around 100.29 percent (as of the closing price on November 27, 2023). The fact that the first Cybertrucks are now finally hitting the road after numerous delays could potentially shake the shares out of their lethargy – even if analysts like Philippe Houchois from the investment bank Jefferies are not happy about the “distraction” that the Cybertruck supposedly represents for Tesla .
