Namibian President Hage Geingob (82) passed away | Abroad

Last month it was announced that Geingob would be treated for cancer in the United States and would be replaced by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba until February 2. According to newspaper The Namibian Geingob returned from Los Angeles last Tuesday. In the obituary, Vice President Mbumba said that Geingob died in the presence of his wife and children.

Geingob has been president of Namibia since 2015. In 1990 he became the country’s first prime minister. He held that office until 2002, and again from 2012 to 2015. In 2014, a year before he became president, he told the public that he had been cured of prostate cancer. New presidential elections were already planned in Namibia for the end of 2024.
