Botic van de Zandschulp has been eliminated in the eighth final of Wimbledon. On Monday evening, the Dutchman lost to Rafael Nadal, one of the favorites for the tournament victory. At the Center Court in London, Van de Zandschulp lost 6-4, 6-2 and 7-6 (6). The Spaniard dominated most of the more than two-hour game.

It was clear in advance that Nadal, with his track record as number 4 in the world, would be the favorite against Van de Zandschulp. The 26-year-old Veendendaler – the global number 25 – soon had a hard time against Nadal. After convincingly won the first two sets, Van de Zandschulp started to offer more resistance. The Dutchman survived three match points and came back from 3-6 to 6-6, but then had to acknowledge his superiority in Nadal.

On Sunday evening, the other Dutch tennis player Tim van Rijthoven lost to Novak Djokovic. It was the first time in twenty years that two Dutchmen had made it this far at Wimbledon. Van Rijthoven lost in four sets to the reigning champion. The Dutchman was one of the surprises of the tournament; as number 104 in the world he was admitted via a wild card.
