Iga Swiatek, who is at the top of the women’s world rankings, was victorious 2-1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) against Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove in the 138th place of the classification, although she struggled from time to time. 21-year-old Swiatek thus extended his winning streak to 37 matches.
Coco Gauff (seeded 11), who played in the final of the French Open this year, beat Mihaela Buzarnescu 2-0 (6-2, 6-3) and got her third round ticket.
2019 champion Simona Halep (16) beat Kirsten Flipkens 2-0 and Amanda Anisimova (20) beat Lauren Davis 2-1.
In men, 2008 and 2010 champion Rafael Nadal (2) won the 2nd round fight against world 106th Ricardas Berankis 3-1 with 6-4, 6-4, 4-6 and 6-3 sets.
World number 56 Brandon Nakashima defeated Denis Shapovalov (13) 3-1 (6-2, 4-6, 6-1, 7-6) to advance to the third round of Wimbledon for the first time.
