Mystery resolved: That is why tracks 1 and 2 are missing at Zoetermeer train station

Train station Zoetermeer can be found at the Nelson Mandela bridge. There you take the sprinter in the direction of Gouda and The Hague, from platform 3 or 4. But why not on 1 and 2? Was anyone trail while numbering? Or is something else going on here?

You may not even pay attention to the numbering if you regularly travel by train. Train passengers in the direction of Utrecht, step on the train at Perron 4 at Perron 4 station. Travelers to The Hague depart from track 3. Why have 1 and 2 been skipped?

A platform is not a trace

First a piece of explanation about the difference between the numbering of platforms and traces. According to the Dutch Railways, a platform is always next to a track. Spokesperson Willemijn Weinands says: “There are also traces without a platform, because they are used for passing trains, for example. Both a track and a platform gets a number that is meant to refer the traveler to the right place.”

From train track to tram track

Traces 3 and 4 of Station Zoetermeer have ever received this numbering because the adjacent stop Driemanspolder on the Zoetermeer City Line contained tracks 1 and 2. The current stop of RandstadRail is no longer provided with rail numbering, because the HTM does not work with this. But the numbering of the train platforms 3 and 4 have therefore remained. So you can look for a pimple for platform 1 and 2 on the Mandela bridge, but you will not find it.
