Myguelle from Langemark is a Junior Journalist, but sees a future in law or politics

Myguelle Nevejan’s fictional story is set in 2060. The earth is about to end and a mother does everything to make her daughter flee to the planet Ugari. The story is gloomy and dark, unlike most of the other stories that the jury of the Davidsfonds has read.

Don’t become a journalist

“I’m very happy, I didn’t expect it at all,” says Myguelle. Myguelle attends the lyceum in Ypres. The school encourages all students to participate in the Journalism Competition. Mygelle made it through the local and provincial selections and finally won nationally.

Her story was written before the war in Ukraine, so it’s actually pure fantasy. And yet a nod to the frightening reality. “I think it’s a mix of the two. There may come a time when the earth will actually end.” Myguelle doesn’t want to be a writer or journalist right away. She thinks more about law or a political career.
