Josefiina, known from the Love Island Suomi series, had to make a tough decision regarding her pet.

Josefiina Lahtis became a mother last summer. Jenni Gästgivar

Josefina Lahtinen became familiar to Finns Love Island Finland series in 2023. She had her first child last summer Joonas Hyttinen with.

Lahtinen tells Iltalehti that he has had to give up his dog, Jäbä, a miniature pinscher.

About a month ago, an unpleasant situation happened at the couple’s home.

– The baby was playing on the floor. I didn’t see the whole situation, but the baby moved and possibly grabbed Jäbä, and Jäbä growled. He didn’t bite hard, but there was a small mark on the baby’s face. It scared our whole group.

When another similar situation happened in the same week, the couple made a tough decision and found another home for the dog. At the moment, Jäbä lives in the family circle, so Lahtinen gets to see his dog.

The decision was difficult for the TV star.

– I’ve had Jäbä since I was a puppy. He was my first own dog when I moved away from home, Lahtinen recalls.

– Jäbä was clearly also stressed and was not allowed to live such a dog’s life. Now he has been really calm in his new home and hasn’t barked, which is quite atypical. Jäbä has been a fly for all sounds in our home, but now he is clearly relaxed and gets all possible attention.

The family has now gotten used to the new daily life without a dog for a month.

– Jäbä always slept under the blanket, so I’m still trying on the couch to make sure he’s not under it. In the mornings, I’m going to use him outside. Yes, there is still a lot of getting used to.

The situation saddens Lahti, because before the baby was born, he had read how to introduce a new family member to a dog. The TV personality admits that he feels like a failure.

– I’ve always thought that when you get a dog, you’ll always be in the same home and you won’t have to give up your pet. I wasn’t able to provide the dog with the forever home I had in mind.

Lahtinen hopes that when the child grows up, the family can try again if Jäbä is able to return to his home.
