My brother and I on Prime: plot, review and Denise Tantucci

un light and funny film, romantic but not sugary. AND I and my brother by Luca Lucini (The perfect man, Oggisposi, Enemies for the skin, How to grow up despite the parents), from today on Prime Videos. We are in Milan, where Sofia Nisticò (a beautiful Denise Santucci) lives, who has left the small town in Calabria behind, the mother (Lunette Savino)his brother Mauro (Christian Caccamo), the family winery.

I and my brother: the plot, the story of a womanizer

Sofia is one of the many “off-site”, as her mother calls her, who moves to Milan to pursue his dreams “in a zig-zag path”, which passes “from a work of m …. to one of the c … .o” and shares with his aspiring rapper friend Alessandro (Claudio Colica) an apartment of 35 square meters (oh yes, we are in Milan). Sofia is a real womanizer, she goes from one story to another, but her heart beats for Michela (Greta Ferro), childhood friend.

Too bad that her favorite has decided to settle in Calabria and marry Mauro. Sofia doesn’t like it and decides to go back to the village (a beautiful medieval village) to sabotage the wedding.

In Calabria he will find the world he had given up: the mother, the brother, the aunts (over which stands an amusing Teresa Mannino, who engages young males on an app, only to discover later that they want to get serious and dump them), a room transformed into a closet and of course Michela and Mauro. The relationship between siblings is conflictual: he accuses his sister of having left him after her father’s death and left him alone to laboriously manage the family winery, she denies him of having exploited the vineyards to conquer a position that otherwise he would never have achieved.

The loose cannon that returns to Calabria from the north

In Calabria, Sofia is determined to win back “her” Michela, preventing the marriage, which the relatives would like in “Kardashian style”. The brother discovers that there was an affair between the two and she gets very angry. But Mauro has something to hide: the company is full of debts and he is trying to sell it, against the advice of his mother and Sofia, the “loose cannon” returned from the north.

In fact, Lucini’s film is somewhat reminiscent of Ozpetek’s comedy, there is the family history, homosexuality, the link with the southern territories. The ending, in which Mauro, Sofia and Michela will decide what to do when they grow up, isn’t entirely obvious (just a little) and the comedy is decidedly pleasant and light.

The cast of I and my brother between protagonists and (splendid) supporting actors

The protagonists Denise Tantucci (Sofia) and Greta Ferro (Michela) as well as beautiful, get along with dignity. The figure of the aspiring rapper Alessandro (Claudio Colica) is very funny and Cristiano Caccamo, Sofia’s notable brother, is also up to par. The supporting actors hold up great: a wonderful one Savino bezelthe fun Teresa Mannino in the role of Aunt Tecla, the indisputable Nino Frassica (Bernard), Ninni Bruschetta and Paola Lavini (respectively father and mother of Michela).

A contemporary comedy to watch on Prime

Luca Lucini says: “With I and my brother I wanted to make a funny, romantic comedy, but without losing a punctual gaze on the contemporary. The hope is that we have managed to make the film also visually very impactful, an elegant comedy, with well-kept environments that tell reality with the emphasis of cinema: the difference between the Milanese departure and the setting of a large metropolis with a small local Calabrian reality is already an interesting contrast in itselfphotographic, scenographic, landscape».

I and my brother it’s an enjoyable film with brilliant dialogues. There is romance, but only cynics will think “it’s a goofy movie”. For the rest, one stands out Beautiful Calabria and you can see the usual Milan of skyscrapers. Although the reality of the south appears a bit sweetened (but after all it is a comedy, not a documentary on the ‘Ndrangheta), the film is perfect for brightening up a rainy afternoon or making a pleasant evening at home.
