MVV keeps Young Ajax in check and wins 1-0 | 1Limburg

MVV defeated Young Ajax in a well-filled Geusselt. The people of Maastricht were ahead 1-0 in the final phase of the first half thanks to a goal from Mitchy Ntelo and did not relinquish that lead in the second half. It was the first victory for the people of Maastricht since mid-October 2021.

MVV Maastricht did not have pleasant memories of the last four games against the promise team from Amsterdam. Four times the people of Maastricht went down with at least four goals against. The team of coach Maurice Verberne had been warned and wanted to do better than VVV-Venlo, which lost 6-1 against the team from Amsterdam on Monday evening. Ihattaren and Kudus were not part of the selection of coach John Heitinga in the Geusselt and that gave the people of Maastricht hope for a good result.

MVV predominates
In the first ten minutes of the match, MVV dominated and created two chances, although shots by Mart Remans and Mitchel Keulen yielded nothing. Romain Matthys received a shot on target in the initial phase, then saw the youngsters from Amsterdam become stronger, but also saw his own team create opportunities. Orhan Dzepar headed over goalkeeper Calvin Raatsie’s goal and a pass from Mitchy Ntelo to Sven Blummel was defused by Rio Hillen.

MVV ahead
In the final phase of the first half, MVV took the lead. Mitchy Ntelo got the ball in front of his feet and did not hesitate to hit the ball against the ropes: 1-0. The Ajax players tried to clear the deficit before half-time. Christian Rasmussen was given room to head in the penalty area, but Romain Matthys had no trouble catching the ball.

Second half
Naci Unüvar, the goal-getter of Jong Ajax, was invisible in the first half and remained in the dressing room after the break. Roland Alberg replaced captain Sven Blummel at MVV. MVV countered and got space on the right, but Tim Zeegers’ shot on the Ajax goal went just over. Shortly afterwards, Jong Ajax got the chance to equalize. Arjany Martha was able to take the ball into the box and turn it, but shot against goalkeeper Matthys from close range.

Up and down
MVV continued to attack. A long shot from Orhan Dzepar landed in the hands of goalkeeper Raatsie and Mitchy Ntelo tried – without result – to convert a cross from Toshio Lake. The game went up and down. At times MVV was the dominant team, at other times Jong Ajax. Twenty minutes before the end, MVV had the chance to double the margin. Toshio Lake dribbled past a Jong Ajax defender and shot at the Ajax goal, but goalkeeper Raatsie stopped the shot.

Pressure increased
In the final phase, the Ajax players increased the pressure. Gabriel Misehouy shot at the Maastricht goal from a distance, but couldn’t get the ball against the ropes. A second attempt by Misehouy was parried by goalkeeper Matthys. On the other side, a one-two from Mitchy Ntelo and Toshio Lake failed.
Both teams continued to battle, but MVV eventually came out on top. The people of Maastricht, penultimate in the Kitchen Champion Division, won 1-0 against the Amsterdam promises and took their first three-pointer since mid-October 2021.
