– We are going in the direction of a small monthly fee for users, Musk said.

According to Musk, a payment wall could help prevent the operation of automatic accounts, or bots. He commented on the matter in a meeting with the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu with, where the topic was technology and freedom of speech.

According to Musk, a paywall would help prevent bots because it currently costs “a fraction of a penny” to create a bot, but increasing the price to “a few dollars or so” would increase the price when a lot of bots are created.

Currently, the platform only charges its users if they have an X Premium account. With the account, you can access additional features, such as the verified account icon.

X has also lost advertisers, so it needs new sources of revenue.

the BBC according to it is not clear if it was an individual comment by Musk or if it refers to plans that will be officially announced later. X did not comment on the matter to the BBC.
