Musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is coming to the Netherlands | show

The musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is coming to the Netherlands this fall. The performance, based on Roald Dahl’s most popular book, will premiere in September at the DeLaMar Theater in Amsterdam.

After the premiere, the musical can be seen in seventeen major theaters until March 2023. The Theater Alliance, a partnership between the theaters, announced this on Thursday.

The 1964 book tells the story of poor little boy Charlie who obtains one of the golden tickets for an exclusive tour of entrepreneur Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory. The musical was previously seen on Broadway and the West End.

Two film adaptations of the book have also been made, starring Gene Wilder (1971) and Johnny Depp (2005) in the lead roles. A third version is expected soon.

Willy Wonka

Leading roles in the Dutch musical version are played by actors Debbie Korper, Rein Hofman, Anne-Marie Jung and Eva van Gessel. It has not yet been announced who will play the role of Willy Wonka. The direction is in the hands of Jasper Verheugd, who previously made Dolfje Weerwolfje. The translation of the songs is in the hands of comedian Thomas van Luyn.

Ticket sales for the Dutch tour started on Thursday morning.
