Music festival Frontnacht gets a permit after all

The music festival Frontnacht takes place on August 27, the evening before the Yserwake in Ypres. That has been a meeting of radical Flemish nationalists for twenty years. They pay tribute to the Flemish front soldiers.

Year after year, more young people came to the event, and the organization also wanted to organize a music festival for them. “A music festival with identitarian and nationalist groups and singers from home and abroad,” says chairman Wim De Wit.

“Neo-Nazi”

A number of groups performing at the festival are said to have ties to the Hammerskins, a neo-Nazi movement. This made the City of Ypres doubtful when the organization submitted an application for a permit for the festival.

“If there are links to neo-Nazism or neo-fascism, then the activity will be denied,” said event alderman Diego Desmadryl. The organization itself has already announced that it will not allow bands linked to neo-Nazi groups.

Ticket sales started

Now the city of Ypres has made a decision. “I am pleased to report that the City of Ypres, based on advice obtained from security services, has decided that our festival can continue as usual,” said chairman Wim De Wit.

With this admission, the promotion of Frontnacht and IJzerwake is off to a great start. Ticket sales are also open.
