Musetti ready for land: “Rome, Wimbledon and panic attacks”

Lorenzo will play three tournaments in South America before Indian Wells: “Court is the surface on which I have obtained the best results. I will never part with Tartarini”

Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile. South American hat-trick on clay for Lorenzo Musetti, one tournament after another, to try to collect precious points on the surface where, until now, he has achieved the best of his career. To then fly to the USA for the Sunshine Double, the Indian Wells-Miami duo. Simone Tartarini’s pupil will make his debut in the 250cc tournament in Argentina against the landlord Pedro Cachin just under a month after his last match, against Lloyd Harris in the first round of the Australian Open.

The panic attacks

Interviewed by ESPN, the number 20 in the world spoke about this year’s schedule: “Last year I decided to go on hard courts and it was a good choice. Now I think it’s the right time to play on clay. It’s the surface where I obtained my best results, I have no points to defend and I feel very comfortable here in South America”. Lorenzo’s growth also passes through physical work (“I’m working on being more solid to be constant for three, four hours”) and mental work: “Panic attacks? Tennis is a sport with a lot of pressure. You’re alone on the pitch and it’s not easy to deal with all the problems alone. Sometimes the pressure is so strong that nothing can be done, but I’m working with a specialist who helps me.”

Wimbledon or Rome

Panic attacks that also hit Musetti’s coach, Simone Tartarini, before Lorenzo’s match in Australia: “Simone is the key to getting where I am. He’s a very important figure, I met him when I was nine. I think that I will never change, ours is a very strong relationship above tennis.” Musetti has clear ideas and now wants to win an important title: “What should I choose between Wimbledon, Rome and Roland Garros? They are all incredible tournaments. If I have to choose, I’ll take Wimbledon because it’s my favorite Grand Slam due to its elegance. But winning in Rome, at home, it would be something unforgettable”. Wimbledon which means Roger Federer: “he IS my favorite player, a source of inspiration for me and not only on the pitch”.
