Alex manages to build a thriving company with different circus productions. He lives his dream as a circus director until his body brakes. His body starts to protest around 2018.
The diagnosis
At first Alex thinks he is overworked. During the Corona outbreak in 2020, he sees the chance to take it a bit quieter. He will work out more and live healthier. That helps in the first instance, but the body keeps on braking here and there.
Alex ends up in a medical mill. In July 2022 he is told that he is suffering from hereditary spastic paraparesis (HSP), a neurological disorder of the spinal cord, which causes the muscles to slowly stiffen and become spastic in both legs. According to the doctors, Alex must take into account that he ends up in a wheelchair. The disease is incurable, but the symptoms can still be treated.
“I don’t die of this, but I will have to learn to live with it,” says Alex. His lower body is deteriorating and now he is in a wheelchair.
