Murderer Milica van Doorn died in prison: ‘CPR was of no avail’

Hüseyin A., the convicted murderer of the Zaanse Milica of Doorn, is deceased. The 51-year-old man from Zaandam was found dead today in his cell in the Zaanstad Judicial Complex. The cause of death is under investigation and there are no indications of a crime or suicide.

The lawyer of Milica van Doorn’s family, Richard Korver, confirms A.’s death to NH Nieuws. Hüseyin A., who was sentenced to 20 years in prison on appeal last February, is said to have been found around 11 a.m. in the shower of his cell.

This is reported by sources within the prison. He would have exercised just before that. The ward where Hüseyin A. was detained has reportedly been closed all afternoon for investigations.

A. Gerald Roethof’s lawyer reports to NH Nieuws that the exact cause of death is still unknown. “But the information I have is that there is no evidence of a crime or suicide.”

CPR in vain

The Custodial Institutions Service reports that a detainee was indeed found dead in his cell this morning. “CPR was to no avail,” said a spokesman. “The NFI (Netherlands Forensic Institute, ed.) will perform an autopsy on the body to determine the cause of death.”

The family of Milica van Doorn has since been informed about the death of A., according to Korver. “This is a big line under this case. Despite that, the family expresses its condolences to Mr.’s family.”

It is 1992 when the then 19-year-old Milica van Doorn is found murdered in the pond behind the Sint-Jozefkerk in the Zaan district of Kogerveld. A long time passed without it being clear who was responsible for her death.

25 years later, the police asked 133 Turkish-Dutch citizens to participate in a DNA relationship test. Among the men who took part was also Hüseyin’s brother A. The police eventually found A. through him.

A. came up with varying explanations: at first he denied being involved in the case, but later he stated that he had acted on behalf of a ghost. At another time, he said he was in a relationship with Milica.

Conviction

On December 11, 2018, A. was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping and murdering 19-year-old Milica. He appealed, but last February he was also found guilty.

In addition, the judge decided last month that he 10,000 euros in compensation have to pay to the family. There was to be another round, because A. appealed. Family lawyer Korver today states that ‘this will be fine’ about the 10,000 euros in compensation, since he has had the assets of A.
