“We are all in shock,” says Yorwin Diaz Chaves. He recently performed on stage with William, who regularly performed as drag queen Alyssa. “It’s really terrible, I still can’t believe it,” he says with tears in his eyes. “He was super sweet, a good friend and very talented. He always had a good energy around him.”
Residence permit
Willliam fled Venezuela because of his orientation. He recently received a residence permit. “He just started a new life, a life of freedom and then it ends this way, which is very tragic,” says Sandro Kortekaas of LGBT Asylum Support.
Kortekaas is committed to LGBTQ asylum seekers who regularly experience violence. He also helped William find a safe place. “Whether his death is also related to this? That is speculation, but I do hope that people who know more will report to the police.”
