Murder suspect (31) turns A16 upside down: police in hot pursuit

A fleeing murder suspect (31) disrupted the A16 on Sunday morning. At high speed he tried to stay out of the hands of, among others, the Brabant police. He was wanted for a fatal stabbing in Delft, in which a woman (33) died. Her father (55) and mother (57) were seriously injured. In the end, the man got stuck on the highway in Belgium.

The fatal stabbing happened on Sunday morning in the Frederik van Eedenlaan in Delft. The female victim died on the spot. The two seriously injured parents were taken to hospital in ambulances. According to the police, the violence has to do with ‘a conflict in the relationship’, reports Broadcasting West.

Pursuit
The 31-year-old man fled after the stabbing and drove across Moerdijk Bridge into our province. The Brabant police then gave chase on the A16 en masse because the man did not want to stop.

At least eight police cars from Breda, Etten-Leur, but also officers from the National Unit and the traffic police drove after the suspect. A police helicopter also kept an eye on the situation from the air.

Across the border
Because the man drove towards the Belgian border, the officers were given permission to continue the pursuit after the border crossing at Hazeldonk. When the Belgian traffic police joined the Dutch colleagues, they took over the pursuit. The man’s car got stuck on the E16 near Schoten, just before Antwerp.

According to the police, the suspect would live in Belgium and is now detained there. He must appear before the investigating judge in Antwerp on Monday. The police in The Hague have announced that an extradition request is being made. “We enjoy working with our Belgian colleagues on this.”
