Murder of 15-year-old Tim: OM appeal against eldest brother’s sentence

The Public Prosecution Service is appealing against the sentence of the eldest (17) of two brothers from Steenbergen for the murder of 15-year-old Tim van der Steen. The Public Prosecution Service cannot appeal against the sentence of his younger brother (16), because he has already received the maximum sentence.

The Public Prosecution Service announced this today because, given the legal term, a choice must already be made, it reports Broadcasting Zeeland. The officers will study the verdict in more detail and will discuss the case in the near future.

The eldest brother received a two-year prison sentence and TBS with compulsory treatment, the judge ordered the youngest to go to prison for one year. He was also sentenced to juvenile detention. The sentence for the older brother is considerably less than the twelve years in prison and TBS demanded by the Public Prosecution Service.

Stabbed several times with a knife
In January, 15-year-old Tim van der Steen was killed in a stabbing incident in the Dauwendaele district of Middelburg. Tim was stabbed several times with a knife. He died in hospital three days later.

At the verdict two weeks ago it became clear that Tim died from seventeen stab and cut wounds. The stabbing was about a debt that Tim had outstanding with the brothers of fifty euros. The youngest suspect had been thinking about killing Tim for two months.
