The municipality of Haarlemmermeer regrets the complaints about loud noise from the Awakenings festival site. Surrounding residents share their frustrations about it. The municipality states that they take the complaints seriously, but that there is not much to do about it. “Because of the weather.”
This weekend, many residents will come with complaints about loud noise, originating from the techno festival Awakenings in Spaarnwoude. Municipality of Haarlemmermeer: ”We find that really annoying. We also take this very seriously. Awakenings meets the set noise standards on the site and in the area.”
It’s because of the weather
According to the municipality, sound experts have carried out an investigation. And it’s because of ‘temperature inversion’. This means that due to the beautiful weather during the day and the rapid cooling in the evening, a warm layer of air rises above the cold layer of air. This creates a kind of lid against which the sound reflects.
“We understand very well that this answer does not solve much,” the municipality continues. “But there’s nothing you can do about it at the moment.”

The festival also releases a lot of beautiful things. Today we had, among other things, the message from community police officer Johan Dubbeldam. During his tour around the festival site in Spaarnwoude, he came across a boy with a cargo bike full of returnable bottles and cans.
