Munich wrestles the sharks down

Red Bull Munich has consolidated the lead in the table in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) after a show of strength.

At the end of the 20th matchday, the runners-up won 3-2 (1-0, 2-0, 0-2) at the Kölner Haien on Tuesday evening and now has 41 points, four points ahead of ERC Ingolstadt and Adler Mannheim, who each have one have played fewer games.

Coach Don Jackson’s team showed two faces on the ice in Cologne. First, Filip Varejcka (2′) put Munich in front early on, before Austin Ortega (27′) and Germany striker Andreas Eder (35′) increased the score in the second period.

In the final section, Cologne made things exciting again with goals from David McIntyre (52nd) and national player Maximilian Kammerer (56th) – but the leader brought the narrow lead over time.
