EHC Red Bull Munich and the Straubing Tigers have secured tickets for the playoff quarter-finals in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).
Third-place Munich won the derby at the Augsburger Panthern on Friday evening 4:2 (0:0, 3:1, 1:1), Straubing confidently defeated the Grizzlys Wolfsburg 4:0 (0:0, 1:0, 3:0). Like the Kölner Haie and the Adler Mannheim, both have secured a place in the top 6.
With a 5:2 (1:1, 1:0, 3:1) against the Iserlohn Roosters, defending champion Eisbären Berlin moved within one point of sixth-placed Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven, who lost out in the home game against Mannheim with 1:2 (0:0, 1:1, 0:0, 0:1) after extra time. Leaders Cologne beat ERC Ingolstadt 6:3 (1:2, 3:1, 2:0) in the highest-scoring encounter of the matchday.
Munich took the lead in the second third at the Curt Frenzel Stadium thanks to Ryan Murphy (22nd) and Maximilian Kastner (25th). Moritz Elias (30th) brought Augsburg close again, but Markus Eisenschmid (35th) and in the final third Tobias Rieder (48th) added for the guests.
