On the night from Saturday to Sunday around 4.30 am there was someone on the street a fight between several people on the Loet, in the center of Schagen. At least one shot was fired and someone was injured.
It is still unclear what preceded the shooting incident. There are stories online about the possible cause of the shooting incident. The police cannot say whether any of this is true. This is part of the investigation, a spokesperson said.
Also part of the investigation are possible images of the fight and shooting that were shared via social media. The images show people fighting with each other and specifically targeting one person. Suddenly a shot rings out.
The police are aware of the images, but are calling on people not to share them.
No suspects arrested yet
There are no suspects identified yet. However, several witnesses were interviewed. The victim was given first aid by doormen of the Alpha entertainment venue and was then taken to hospital. It is unclear how the victim is doing now.
The police would like to indicate that, contrary to rumors circulating on social media, the suspect is not an asylum seeker or has fled from another country.
