Two of the world’s most well-known rappers shared a stage at the MTV Video Music Awards 2022 on Sunday (August 28) as Eminem and Snoop Dogg performed their duet, released two months ago, From the D 2 the LBC .

In the circus of the monkeys

Their performance began with a comedic interlude: Snoop Dogg smoked an oversized joint – to which Eminem replied that he felt like he was getting high from passive smoking alone. A green vortex then appeared on the screen, taking viewers straight into Slim Shady’s hallucinating mind.

In his psychosis, he and Snoop Dogg became digital avatars – and figures of so-called Bored Apes. These are computer-generated monkeys, of which the two rappers each own one of a total of 10,000 in existence. Some of the virtual primates are now being traded for up to one million euros. The NFTs were developed by “Yuga Labs”, who have teamed up with “MTV” to implement the performance. Towards the end of the song, Eminem woke up from his THC trip and the camera pointed back at the stage.

It’s been a long time

It was the first time both artists had performed at the VMAs in over a decade. Eminem last graced the awards ceremony in 2010 with “Not Afraid” and “Love the Way You Lie”; for Snoop Dogg it was even the last appearance since the mid-noughties: in 2005 he rapped the songs “Juicy” and ” Warning”.

Empty hands for Eminem & Snoop Dogg

Incidentally, the two musicians went away empty-handed when the prizes were awarded this year: the illustration of the performed duet “From the D 2 the LBC” was nominated in the “Best HipHop” category. In the end, however, the music video for “Do We Have a Problem?” gave Nicki Minaj and Lil Baby the trophy.
