The large-sized Meira spice bags sold in stores have been considered cheaper savings packages, but they may contain completely different spice mixtures than the smaller bags of the same name contain, reports MTV.
According to MTV, in recent days, social media has been wondering how, for example, the ingredients of traditional minced meat, chicken and barbecue seasoning mixes differ from their smaller versions.
The main difference between the package sizes is usually the amount of salt and sugar.
For example, a 100-gram package of Meira ground meat seasoning contains 34 grams of salt, while the smaller 35-gram package contains only 0.14 grams of salt per hundred grams. The smaller bag also contains allspice, but there are no other differences between them.
Some spice mixes can have bigger differences.
Meira confirms
Meira’s marketing manager Heidi Päiväniemi confirmed to MTV that it really is two different products with different recipes.
However, according to MTV, Päiväniemi apologizes to those consumers who feel they have been misled.
– We learn and evaluate where we can develop packaging and product communication, Päiväniemi stated for MTV.
