‘Mountain king’ Julius van den Berg at least three days in a polka dot jersey in Vuelta

As a non-climber, cyclist Julius van den Berg will be wearing the polka dot jersey for at least three days during the Vuelta. “I am absolutely not a climber, but I can handle these climbs that we have had in the Netherlands,” the native Purmerender tells NH Radio.

On Saturday he was already first on top of the Amerongse Berg and today he also took one point in the mountains classification. As a result, the North Hollander will wear the polka dot jersey for at least three days.

“Everyone is super enthusiastic. I think it is also nice for many people to see a Dutchman wearing the polka dot jersey. Super fun to experience and I will not soon forget this experience,” says an enthusiastic Van den Berg .

Vuelta in the Netherlands

The past three days the Vuelta drove through the Netherlands. “It’s really bizarre how many people were standing on the side of the road. Super cool to hear so many people and also to hear my name shouted,” said Van den Berg.

Tonight the peloton flies to Spain. Monday will be a rest day. The Vuelta will resume on Tuesday with a hill stage in the north of Spain.
