A car with a trailer was seized on Saturday morning at the IJzeren Man in Vught. Officers saw the 34-year-old driver from Den Bosch driving this combination on a cycle path. That got their attention. They decided to check on him next.

The man turned out to be an acquaintance of the police. He was driving with a suspended driver’s license. It was the ninth time in five years that he was caught doing this. He also tested positive for several types of drugs. That was the eighth time in five years that this had happened to him. He was then arrested.

The trailer had a different license plate than the car. This turned out to be a false license plate. The man also appeared to have done this before. When investigating the stamped chassis number, the officers saw that the trailer had been stolen several months ago from a parking lot in Limburg. Officers found a bottle of GHB and some cannabis in the car.

The icing on the card was that the man also turned out to be driving without valid insurance. In addition, it turned out that the driver had not attached the trailer’s breakaway braking device. This is a safety cable that applies the handbrake if the trailer comes loose. “We were amazed at how much we had to put into the system,” says a Traffic Police officer.

After investigation, the trailer will be returned to the rightful owner. The public prosecutor decides what will happen to the car.
