A 24-year-old racing motorcycle driver has been fined 450 euros because his engine was too noisy. After a noise measurement, it turned out that the noise level of his racing engine was exceeded by 19 decibels, the traffic police reports.
That happened on Saturday on the Maasdijk near Overlangel. The man was driving at a high speed, according to police. The engine is given a so-called wok status and must therefore be inspected again. In the meantime, the man is not allowed to drive it.
There are standards for the amount of noise that may be made. If this standard is exceeded by 5 decibels, the owner of the vehicle will be fined. It is often difficult for the police to catch drivers who go wrong. That is why, in Amsterdam, among others, tests are being carried out with noise speed cameras, which contain microphones.
It is unknown how the Brabant traffic police measured the noise level.
