The shoppers at Betje Wolffplein in Hoorn went through anxious moments yesterday. Saturday afternoon turned into chaos when officers spotted a couple on a motorcycle around 4:25 p.m. The passenger was not wearing a helmet and the motorcycle was in a pedestrian area. Before the officers could speak to the couple, they took off on a motorcycle, straight through the uncovered shopping center.
Reckless crazy ride
According to a police spokesperson, the attempted escape was ‘very reckless’. The motorcycle drove past shoppers. So close that a father had to pull his child away from the motorcycle by his hood.
The chase was stopped near Kersenboogerd station because, according to the spokesperson, it became too dangerous. Yet the motorcyclist was not spared. The Horinees drove head-on into an oncoming car on the Spant, because he veered out of the bend and took the bend in the opposite direction on the wrong side of the road.
The co-driver was unharmed: he had already gotten off the motorcycle.
