The world champion announces the decision on social networks: “There is a precise clause in the contract. We will give ourselves a second chance to feel comfortable before deciding 2026”
The story between Aprilia and Jorge Martin would seem to the credits. To confirm it is the same Spanish pilot, World Champion in 2024, who with a message on his social networks spoke of the concrete possibility of letting the Noale team leave at the end of the season. “At no time I violated the contract,” wrote Martin. “When we signed, I agreed with Aprilia that, if they did not occur certain conditions, I reserved the right to decide my future for 2026.” This clause, according to reports, was an integral part of the signed agreement: an essential condition to accept the Aprilia project.
contractual freedom
–
Martin explained that, from the beginning, he had placed as a condition the possibility of testing the bike in a competitive context before working in the long term. “One of my condition was having the opportunity to try the bike in real circumstances,” he said. “Only in this way would I have felt comfortable in signing for two years instead of one.” In the face of the contractual term that required a decision within a certain date, the pilot chose to exercise his right to free himself for 2026, with the aim – as specified – to “take control” on his professional path.

dialogue still open
–
Martin, however, does not close the door. Despite the decision, the world champion has specified that the will to dialogue with Aprilia remains intact. The pilot recognizes the difficulties related to accidents and leaves a glimmer for a possible extension of the trial period. “Unfortunately the circumstances that occurred as a consequence of the falls have conditioned this phase,” he explained. “I have always been open to the dialogue with Aprilia to extend this trial period to a specific number of great prizes starting from my return to the track. All with the goal for both sides to give us a second opportunity and feel more comfortable before making a decision in view of 2026”. And then: “I appreciated the bike, the team and the commitment of all the people who are part of the project. The only thing I ask is to respect my will and the spirit with which at the time we entered into the agreement with Aprilia”.
Look forward
–
Finally, the Spanish pilot reassures: “There is no conflict or recriminations, I just want to be able to look forward clearly after having lived very difficult moments and a very serious injury, and continue to give the best of me inside and out of the track”.
