“It seems like a logical place and the United States is an important market” said CEO Dereck Chang who looks to the development of the championship: “The goal is to create a fan experience that is engaging, exciting, fun and accessible wherever we do it”
The future of MotoGP under the aegis of Liberty Media inevitably passes through the United States, with Miami emerging as the main candidate for a new stage of the world championship. At the presentation of the quarterly accounts of the giant that owns F1 and the premier class of the MotoGP, this was made clear by the CEO, Derek Chang, who also confirmed the existence of talks with the local organizers of South Florida Motorsports. “Miami would seem like a logical place – explained Chang – because there is already a runway there, net of all the assessments on safety and commercial returns”.

From a strategy perspective, Liberty is not limited to a single event, but aims to transform the perception of sport in the American market. “The US is an important market for MotoGP and so we are looking at every avenue to grow our business here. Our stated goal is to bring some of these races closer to cities where we can take advantage of the infrastructure. Whether it’s the airport and long-distance travel, both for ourselves and for fans coming internationally, hotels, restaurants and ease of access, I think that’s important, so we’re already starting to make progress on that.”

The CEO, who has already visited Austin and Jerez this year and will travel to Mugello and Assen, has a clear objective: “I really want to have a precise idea of what it feels like in the different locations, because what we want to do is create an experience for the fans that is engaging, exciting, fun and accessible wherever we do it.” This evolution will be gradual and based on constant learning: “There is a lot to learn even from the locations we may not move from, but how to improve them. So it’s a mix of all this as we think about our calendar for the future.”

Regarding financial results, MotoGP showed significant commercial growth in the first quarter of 2026, with total revenues reaching $94 million, marking a 25% jump compared to the previous year. This momentum was fueled in particular by the increase in promotional commissions for individual events and by a decisive push on the sponsorship front, thanks to the entry of new partners and the strengthening of trackside advertising.
