Motocrosser Jeffrey Herlings misses the start of the new season of the MXGP due to a knee injury. The five -time world champion from Oploo cannot start on 2 March in the opening match in Argentina. Herlings broke or tore his leg, pink, ankle, hip, collarbone, heel, shoulder blade and neck. And this time it is his knee that throws a spanner in the works.

Herlings already sustained the injury in October, but is not yet completely finished rehabilitation. When he hooks up again is still unclear. “I can cycle, swim and train, but not drive my motorcycle yet,” says Herlings about his situation. “It was a strange injury because there was not much pain after the operation. But it takes time to recover. I want to ride as quickly as possible and join the team. I really want to race again.”

Substantial setback
Herlings sustained the injury last season during a final match in Valkenswaard. A significant setback that has a lot of influence on the upcoming MXGP. The question is whether he can still participate in the world title. He will decide for himself when he will board this season.

“I wanted to be strong at the start of this season, so this setback is not good,” he says. “What I have to hope for now is a successful second part of the championship.”

Jeffrey Herlings is plagued by injuries all his career. The list of problems is almost endless and has almost certainly cost him a few world titles. Herlings broke or tore his leg, pink, ankle, hip, collarbone, heel, shoulder blade and neck. And this time it is his knee that throws a spanner in the works.
