Mother Tess Lieder returns after pregnancy and finds new club

Tess Lieder, formerly known as Wester, has found a new club. The 29-year-old handball player from Heerhugowaard is now under contract with Borussia Dortmund until the summer of 2025. She last played with Romanian CSM Bucharest and took a break to become a mother.

She gave birth to daughter Flo last November. Last summer she married professional soccer player Mart Lieder. The Purmerender is under contract with FC Emmen, but has been injured for a while.

“There was already contact with Borussia in the past and I am glad that it has now been finalized,” says Lieder on the website of the handball club. “It’s nice to be a mother, but I really missed handball. We have a good team and it helps that I already know Henk Groener (former national coach).”

Lieder is no stranger to the German Bundesliga. She previously defended the goal of VfL Oldenburg (2011-2015) and SG BBM Bietighiem (2015-2018). She won the German title in 2017 with the latter club and was the best in Denmark in 2021 with Odense BK. The North Holland player became world champion with the Orange in 2019.
