Mother drowns while trying to rescue her children from lake in France | Abroad

A 38-year-old woman drowned on Monday after trying to save her children in a lake in Reiningue, near the eastern French city of Mulhouse. The police reported this.

The two children, aged six and twelve, could not swim. When they got into trouble, their mother came to their rescue. But she couldn’t swim either.

There are deep holes in the lake in question. The victim therefore lost her footing and drowned. Despite the quick intervention of the emergency services, the woman remained underwater for forty minutes. The emergency services were unable to resuscitate her afterwards.

Her children eventually managed to return to shore. There are lifeguards at the lake only during the summer, until September 3 this year.
