The mother of Bridget Maasland (51), 77-year-old Elly, has decided to undergo cancer treatment. “I love you and of course I want to stay with you,” says the elderly woman.
At the beginning of the month it caused quite a shock among Bridget Maasland’s loyal followers: she published a podcast in which her mother Elly announced that she had cancer and would not be treated. Why? She has a phobia of vomiting and nausea is one of the side effects of chemotherapy.
Antisocial
Guido den Aantrekker thought that was a bit antisocial. The Story boss pointed out in Shownieuws how many people Elly leaves behind and that it is best to overcome your phobia. “She then talks about all the phobias she has and how she can’t bring herself to do certain things. On the other hand, the alternative is that you just die.”
Dying is not fun for your loved ones, he corrected Elly. “I can also imagine: if you have children and you have such a beautiful daughter like Bridget and I think also a brother and a grandson, Mees, that you might do everything you can to get over that phobia and maybe be with them a little longer.”
Still on chemo
Now Elly has decided to start chemo after all, as can be seen in a video on the Instagram by Bridget — everything is filmed. She will have to go to the hospital every day for the next six weeks. “I just had the first chemo. It went well. I’m now waiting to have radiation treatment across the street.”
Why did she change tack? “I love you and of course I want to stay with you.”
