Most goals in 2022: PSG star Kylian Mbappé clearly ahead thanks to the World Cup

Haaland more goals than games

In the 2022 calendar year, no professional has scored as many goals in Europe’s top 15 leagues as Kylian Mbappé. This was the result of an evaluation of the TM database, in which the leagues, the associated national and international cup competitions and all international matches were included. The most valuable footballer in the world scored 56 times in 56 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team, significantly more than Erling Haaland and Robert Lewandowski in the following places. The most successful German attacker, Kai Havertz, is only in 48th place.

At the World Cup in Qatar alone in November and December, Mbappé scored eight more goals for the “Équipe Tricolore” and thus secured the trophy as top scorer. Haaland, who will score a total of 46 goals in 2022, had not qualified with the Norwegian national team and was therefore unable to follow suit. Lewandowski caught up with the Manchester City striker with his two goals for Poland, but Haaland broke away again after Christmas and has four more goals than the Barça attacker.

Haaland scored ten of his goals for Borussia Dortmund in the first half of the year, from the summer he scored 27 times for the “Citizens” and a total of nine times for Norway. As the only player with at least 15 appearances in 2022, Haaland (43 games) has a quota of more than one goal per game. Mbappé scored on average exactly once in each game.

Behind the top 3 follow Mehdi Taremi from FC Porto and Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig, the first professional from the Bundesliga, who is also the top scorer, who was only able to celebrate for his club in 2022. In the French national team it was not enough for a goal in eight appearances, the 25-year-old missed the World Cup injured. Exactly the other way around, Lionel Messi did it in sixth place: the newly crowned world champion scored more often for Argentina (18 goals in 14 games) than for PSG (17 goals in 37 games).

The first surprising names are also in sixth and ninth place: Ricardo Gomes (30) played the season of his life at FK Partizan Belgrade and scored 35 goals in 51 games, Amahl Pellegrino (31) made 46 appearances for FK Bodø/Glimt one goal less.

Havertz best German goalscorer 2022 – filling mug is enough for 7th place in half a year

With regard to (ex-)Bundesliga players, the evaluation with three professionals in the top 5 is quite gratifying, for German attackers the year 2022 was not particularly successful. Havertz, the most prolific striker, is only in 48th position. The 23-year-old scored 15 goals for Chelsea and was successful five times for the German team, including twice in the last World Cup group game against Costa Rica (4-2).

Niclas Füllkrug also scored twice in Qatar for Germany. The 29-year-old is also the top German goalscorer in the current Bundesliga season and has scored ten goals for Werder Bremen. In the first half of the year, he also scored 14 goals for the Green-Whites to rise – but these do not count in the ranking due to the limitation to the top 15 leagues. Even with the twelve goals since the summer, Füllkrug is seventh in the German rankings.
