Russia threatened on Tuesday with “serious consequences” for Lithuania after rail transit between the Russian Baltic Sea exclave of Kaliningrad and Russia itself has been partially restricted. “Russia will naturally respond to such hostile acts,” Nikolai Patrushev, the head of the Russian Security Council, said during a visit to Kaliningrad. The European Union also suffered a blow. Russia accuses the EU of promoting an “escalation”.
