A good three months before the start of the World Cup in Qatar, Walid Regragui was introduced as Morocco’s new national coach.

As the Moroccan association announced on Wednesday, the 46-year-old succeeds the Bosnian Vahid Halilhodzic, who was dismissed “by mutual agreement” in mid-August due to differences of opinion.

“We want to achieve great things – and we will do everything we can to make you happy,” said Regragui at his presentation in the Moroccan capital Rabat.

At the World Cup in Qatar (November 20th to December 18th), the “Lions of Atlas” will meet in Group F against runners-up Croatia, Belgium and the Canadian national team around Bayern left-back Alphonso Davies.

As a club coach, Regragui had recently celebrated great success. He led the Moroccan top club Wydad Casablanca to win the championship and the African Champions League. As a professional, the 45-time Moroccan international played for FC Toulouse and AJ Ajaccio, among others.
